Roughly 4-5 years ago, I bought my first earphones... and was blown away. No more crappy iPod earbuds. Back then the Shure E2c was going for about $130... I managed to snag an amazing deal for $65 shipped and have been happy ever since.
Recently... cracks have been forming along the plastic coating where they contact my ears. Needless to say, they have now exposed the wiring inside and are too painful to wear. I contacted Shure and they gave me an option of about $50 for their "new" Shure SCL2s as a replacement. I have not kept up with all the new earphones out there as I was perfectly content with my Shure E2c... but now... I'm curious as to what is new. After reading some newer opinions on the Shure E2c.... it seems people think they're muddier and all the power is in the mid-range.
What do you guys recommend I do? Spend the $50 on the replacement or spend more cash for better earphones? I probably won't spend more than a few hundred dollars on new earphones. Ideally under $200... but who knows. :D
