I have about £35 ($55) to spend on some new earbuds. Ideally I'm looking for all round performance as I listen mainly to stuff by Hendrix or the Chili Peppers, and in the past I've owned sony in ear earphones that have been a bit too basey for me.The iLounge guide talked about earphones that are "neutral" and without "sound colouring" such as base enhancment. I'm not that worried about features like noise canceling as I listen mainly at home. Though I wouldn't really describe myself as a complete audiophile do find the bundled apple earhpones a bit disappointing for my 320kbps mp3's, especially after a few months of use. Where should I turn for a good sounding all-rounder?

Thanks,
Sean

Try either Ultimate Ears in-ears (there'll be a version in your price range - probably Metro.Fi 150) or you could try some Sennheisers, but they tend to be quite bassy.

try the grado sr-60i... their a cost 10 bucks more and they are the industry standard (at least they are to me since i compare everything to grado)
