I bought these in hopes to cover my IPod and protect it from scratches and whatnot. I had initially used Saran wrap and it worked great for me. I had hoped that these would provide better protection and not be as much of a hassle to apply. Boy was I wrong.

First of all, they're just as hard, if not harder to apply than saran wrap. To complicate things more, they come in squares so the sizing can be a pain to get right.

However, the main reason I discredit them and the primary reason I made this post in the first place is that they actually effect the lazer engravings on the back. After pulling one off to reapply it more correctly, I noticed the lazer engraving showing on the screen protector and that the section that it had been laying on was a bit lighter. You could tell a difference between where it had been laying and where none had been applied. I'll admit that it isn't that huge of a deal and that you would never be able to tell it happened even upon close inspection since I applied it to every section of the back of the IPod equally but still...

If it is engraved, how did it come off? My guess is that it just left an impression on the screen protector but did not actually come off the ipod. I have them on my back, and so far so good.

Hmmm, I really hope you're right. Can anyone else shed some light on this?

If that is the case, then I guess they're not as bad as I had originally thought though I still don't think they are worth it over normal saran wrap.

I use RightWrites and when you peel it off you will see the iPod engraving transfer on to RightWrite, but that in no way affects your iPod permanently.

After all, how can a sheet of thin vinyl scratch chrome (stainless steel)?

Apparently, it can't remove the engraving as it is engraved into the metal:

I've had WriteRight screen protectors on my iPod since the day I bought it & they work amazingly well. Yeah, it's tricky to get them on without bubbles & to cut them to size, and to keep them stuck on around the corners -- BUT, I haven't had a scratch & I haven't had to reapply them. I'm very happy with how well they work. I'll keep them on even after I buy a permanent case (waiting for the new iSkin). I don't have engraving on my iPod, but I can't see how it would matter. Maybe you're just getting engraving dust or something on the screen protectors?

Let me be clear: Don't waste your money on these things. They are difficult to size, difficult to apply, and look bad when they're on. The little plastic sheets never seem to adhere properly and if you have to peel off and reapply, the forget about it. The number of bubbles in the plastic ranges from the bad to outright terrible and at least one corner never seems to lay down properly. In short, it makes my nice, slick looking iphone look cheap and ghetto.

If you're ok with that, then good luck with this product. Otherwise, it's a waste.
