I purchased a new lap top after my old one failed badly. I have music and apps on my itouch but not on the new laptop,

My question is if I connect my itouch via the usb port to my computer will it syncronise and lose everything I have on my itouch.

Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, iTunes will want to sync the Touch; since there's nothing in your library, content will be removed from the Touch. To recover music and videos from the Touch, read through this excellent iLounge tutorial (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-computer/) on copying content from iPod to computer. Your apps can be re-downloaded from the Store -- log in to the Store using the account that originally purchased the apps and click the Buy button; iTunes will tell you they've already been purchased and offer to download them again.

Once you get iTunes restored, your next step should be to get yourself a backup system to make sure this doesn't happen again...

Sorry your majesty if I am too new to this itouch business, the rather short shrift cocky answer was not what I was looking for. Thankfully someone else pointed me in the right direction.

Take that as a compliment,
I would have copy pasted the forum but my iPhone does not allow this yet, I just figured out of the hundreds of forums you could find one, sick of answering the same question

Don't worry too much, snarky folks usually mellow out with age. I've been to forums where the new guy asks a new guy question and they aren't treated like a bum asking for change. Shocking I know but it happens.

once that works, the way you will want to add music from your external drives is by going to (within iTunes) File->Add Folder to Library. Then navigate to your external HD's directory where the music is, and click add. If you have another HD with music on it, repeat the process once the first has completed.
