View Full Version : Remote App does not Show up in iTunes??!! - Vista

i am running windows vista and i am not seeing the remote icon under "Devices" in iTunes. I have gone to Edit>Preferences>Look for iPhone and Touch Remotes and the box is checked.

My computer's firewall allows full access to both Bonjour and iTunes. I also added the TCP 3689 and UDP 5353 ports.. My McAfee also allows access to both programs.

Both my laptop and iPod Touch are connected to my home wifi connection. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my iTunes and all other Apple programs and I have restored my Touch..

I know I have troubleshooted a lot already, i hope someone else knows the trick in fixing this issue i am having.

Have you had Remote connected to iTunes on this computer before or entered the passcode from Remote into iTunes yet?

If there is an entry in Remotes settings on the touch for your computer delete it and try to link it again. Once Remote is linked with iTunes it will not appear under devices in iTunes.

I have not connected any library to my Remote app yet. I just downloaded the app last week.

In Dec. I tested the remote on a friends touch but i cannot recall if i did it on my laptop, hers, or my mothers. Would it matter if I connected my library to her remote app on her touch first?

It shouldn't matter if you connected another touch before. I assume the touch is connecting to the wireless network. The touch will not show under the Devices list in iTunes until you try to add it using the option in the Remotes settings menu on the touch. Only once you tap on the "Add Library" in Remote's settings and the Passcode is displayed will it appear in iTunes on the computer. If you are following these steps you may want to temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus to help narrow down were the issue is. You should also check your security settings on the router to ensure it is not blocking the touch as well.
