Can't believe the hotest topic of the day is not discussed here.
Here's a LINK (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30459034/).

I'll believe it when I see it. The last lines of that article say it all:
"Analysts caution that Verizon Wireless/Apple reports may be spin, in part, by Apple to cement an improved contract with AT&T.
“This could end up being an elaborate negotiation tactic,” said Burden."

It seems that Apple is making a more netbook type device for Verizon as well

Lol. That would be *some* negotiation tactic. Even wo it, Apple is already sitting pretty, said to have boosted AT&T earnings.
But getting some of those VZW customers sure is tempting. Some customers just won't switch because they are comfortable with VZW and/or hate ATT, and the total U.S. customer base is stagnated.

My family would probably switch, just because AT&T sucks where we live.
Waiting for them to change their frequency for more indoor friendly signals.

It's not going to happen. Why would Apple invest in a CDMA version of the iPhone when Verizon is moving away from it in a couple of years anyway? I think it's more likely Verizon is putting this story out to keep from losing any more customers to AT&T when the new iPhone comes out.
Good analysis here:

I think Apple should have CDMA/GSM iPhones right off the bat, would have made so much more money. AT&T was the only one to gain from it being GSM only, making people convert over. One thing to note, I believe Apple first went to Verizon with the iPhone and they declined, so AT&T was next

Something new is always around the corner. Making a cellphone doesn't seem like a major investment these days. Read about this Taiwan company Mediatek (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/28/technology/28cell.html?_r=2&hpw), Chinese fakers order from them, slap on a shell and ta-da, a cellphone. Plus the rumoured VZW phone would be a Lite version.

I was with VZW and got sick of not getting my calls/texts while at work and occasionally at my home. My two co-workers have iPhones and get full bars all over the work building, where my VZW phone was at ZERO signal in 99.9% of it. I went to the iPhone and am able to get calls and texts as well as anything else the iPhone is capable of anywhere in my building, and at my home, no missed or dropped calls yet, ever.
For me the choice was an easy one. Not that VZW is bad, my wife has a Storm with them and she loves the service, plus its cheaper than the plans for the iPhone at present, its all about what works for YOU, not what other people say, or who you think you should be loyal to, screw that, get what works.

It's true, you could already have the upgraded frequency, since last I talked to AT&T they were starting to tweak them all.
On that note though, location is a strong decider of what company you move to, I really wish they'd put more towers up everywhere (what are we paying them for!)

I still dont understand why Verizon rejected them in the first place. They could have had the cell phone industry by the balls if they did. Bad move! I will be getting an iphone once the new one comes out in june. I currently have verizon and will break my contract to get one. The iphone is too cool not to have no matter what company provides the service.

Eh, if you don't get a good enough signal, you might as well get the iPod touch, because not being able to make/receive calls makes the monthly fee useless.
If the Verizon iPhone comes true (and if it's lite, as long as it still has e-mail) my father is moving back. We get a 40% discount with Verizon, and only 7% with AT&T.
I guess Verizon didn't think an iPod+Phone would take off like it did, which is a shame since Verizon has a better network then AT&T.

Because...
(1) Verizon was and still is, the BIG DOG, they are not gonna make a deal unless they come out well ahead and retain lots of control. Something that Steve Jobs don't allow, if u know at all about the Apple company.
(2) By volume, Verizon still have the bulk of business with the Blackberrys, but that was b4r the recession, but that answers your question why not b4r and maybe OK now.

Well, if VZW gets the iPhone. I'll get it. In the meantime I'm in the market for the iTouch.

I can't tell you how many times I'll get a text 15+ minutes later and people getting all ####y why I don't respond to them earlier.
AT&T shows full coverage where I live, AND 3G, AND there's an AT&T store less then 1 mile from my house.
Guess what, I still go from 5 bars to searching while standing in the same spot.
From no data, to the dot thing, to edge, to 3G.
I talked to AT&T and they said "oh it's the sim card acting weird, let me replace it"
I get a new card, and nothing new. I'm wondering if either A) AT&T really THAT bad (my father used to have AT&T a few years ago for his business phone and it was so bad his company allowed him to make a Verizon account, to many dropped calls is not good for the business)
or B) something is wonky with my antenna. I should mention that my WiFi is stuck at 2 bars, I even had to make a special B only router for my iPhone to play YouTube videos.
Long rant, story short wtb Verizon iPhone (25% discount vs AT&T's 7%)
