AT&T iPhone plan

I have a question about the iPhone data plan for those who have it. You have to pay the additional 30 dollars a month period. Then they have a seperate text messaging plan on top of that for another 20 dollars. So basically 39.99 for my phone plan, 30 for the data plan and another 20 for unlimited text messaging. My question is, can't you just download the unlimited text free app instead of paying another 20 dollars to be able to text? I use unlimited text app for my iPod right now.

I believe you can. Just make sure you have no texting with the phone so you don't get charged if people text you.
