Just been on Audioboo and someone on there has downloaded and activated without having a developer account - and has posted instructions...

has anyone done this yet, and if so what implications does this have when the real update comes out?

Thinking of doing it but don't want to break the phone!

LINK REDACTED

Check it out and let me know if you think it will work!!!

No implications for when the real update comes up.
But implications for now are:
a) you can't downgrade back to v2 if you don't like it.
b) while beta 3 is robust, you are running beta software. So if you heavily rely on your phone, it isn't a good idea.
c) apps may stop working. And if that is the case, you'll have to wait until June before the developers can fix them.
d) some of us paid good money to be able to use 3.0. But if you want to be a thieving !@@##@ go for it. ;)

The iPhone 3.0 firmware is in closed beta and is proprietary Apple code that has not been released for public consumption. This puts this post in the category of information related to unauthorized distribution of software or "warez' and therefore inappropriate for discussion here on iLounge as per our Forum Policy (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ilounge/forumpolicy/).
