Opinions on the Ultimate Ears Metro-Fi 170?

does anyone have any opinions/reviews for the Ultimate Ears Metro-Fi 170/170vi.

i'm most likely gonna get them, but want reassurance that these aren't crap..

I don't use that model you will buy soon. but Ultimate ears is one of the best companies which produce high quality earphone. I own two other models which are super fi.vi series (4, 5 model). sound is amazing and very accurate(clean, good bass but not heavy) and no distortion period.

We actually awarded a "Best of Show Finalist" award to the MetroFi 170's this year, primarily based on the fact that they're a good quality set of earphones for a very reasonable price. From our Best of Show awards synopsis:

After testing, considerable discussion and deliberation, we decided to award a Best of Show Finalist Award to the MetroFi 170vi because of what it represents—a relatively strong, highly affordable combination of quality in-canal earphones and microphone functionality with a nice design. We also liked, but did not issue an award to the MetroFi 220vi, which looks nicer and sounds a little better, but costs more. Both pairs do a nice job of matching the classic Ultimate Ears sound signature, with good treble detail to offset strong bass, and though fans of the company’s many more expensive earphones won’t be blown away by the audio quality, either model would be a solid, sharp-looking starter pair of canalphones to upgrade from Apple’s iPod and iPhone pack-ins.

(note that the only different between the 170 and the 170vi is the inclusion of an in-line mic for iPhone use on the latter -- the earphones themselves are identical).

If they are the same as the ones they replace - the Metro.fi 150, they are good. So good in fact that when I got mine I almost immediately took them back to the store and upgraded to the metro.fi 200, as I felt that if they were that good, the 200's must be incredible. There wasn't that much of a price difference at that stage so I thought it made sense...sort of.

I have to say - several months on and I am very, very happy with my choice. I am listening to Soundgarden through them as I type this...awesome. Great clarity, good bass, nice separation and little distortion under load.

After I wrecked the cable on my Sennheisers, I really wanted to get the 170vi back in February (when they were supposed to be released), but I couldn't wait and ended up with the SuperFi 4vi instead.

Does anyone know if the 170vi works with the new Skype app for iPod Touch? Since it has a mic, should be able to use Skype on my iPod right???

If it does work, I'm definitely getting a pair!
