Based on the complaints about the FM transmitters, can someone explain the "hard wire" option for someone who is not a "stereo person" nor a "car person" (in other words pretty clueless). My Jeep doesn't have a cassette player so unfortunately that's not an option and I'm very picky about sound quality so I'm not happy with the FM option either.

An FM modulator would put you in business. Contact your nearest Best Buy, or CC shop people. It's how they wired in my XM radio.

You need to find out whether your Jeep has a aux input or CD changer interface. And, if so, does it require an adapter to accept a line level signal.
Presuming there is some way to connect it to your stereo, you can get the audio signal out of the iPod from the headphone jack or from a combined power adapter and line out like this:

I'd suggest finding a Jeep forum and searching there. I'm sure a million people have already done it.

Isn't is just cheaper replacing your current car CD system with a unit that's got a front panel Aux input? That's what I'm now considering.
Sanyo ECD-T801 unit claims to have a front aux input and it costs less that $80. Anyone know if i can plug my mini directly into this port?

If it says line-in (and it looks like a headphone jack) you should be fine just using a standard audio cable. Do you have a link to the product?

usually newer decks have an aux input..
if yours isn't then see if the deck has cd changer controls. If it does then you should be able to hard wire.
for me though, my deck was about 2 years old(kenwood). I have cd changer controls on mine so i had to buy a kenwood adapter ($20) that converted my cd changer control into an aux input. All i had to do was plug it into the back of the deck.
then i had to buy a cable that connected to my ipod and to the adapter. I opted for the ICABLE. i paid a lot for it, but it does the trick. thats all to it

This is what I own, it's the 2004 model:

I have the 6 disc in dash player as well. I looked at it and there is no aux input.

You should have an aux input in the back of the deck.. just to make sure... just go to the dealer and ask them if you do. They should be able to tell you. After that all you need are the audio cables to plug into your ipod.
If you dont have an aux, you might have to replace your deck with one that does to hardwire it.
