Discrepancy between track count?

Hi there,

I have a 40gb G3 that I auto-sync with iTunes on Win2k Pro.

I have recently noticed that there is a discrepancy between the number of total tracks in my library and the number of total tracks on my iPod. there are some 3986 tracks on the ipod, but my library has 4024. I spent some time scrolling up and down to see if any of them were unchecked, but they all were.

Any ideas?

My guess is you have some media files that iPod can't play, so they don't get synched, e.g. MP2 files.

Check the file extensions of the files that were not synched.

Also, files could also have the wrong extension. If you use iTunes, click on the unsynched songs, "File Info", and if it lists "MPEG Layer 2" (i.e., mp2) then it won't sync. I learned that the hard way.

i can't seem to find any songs in my library that are not being synched.

what is the best way to determine which songs are not being sync'ed? i think i mentioned in my original post that I tried to scroll through all my music a few times, but couldn't find any songs that were "unchecked".

is the check mark is the 2nd column from the left the 'sync' vs 'unsynched' indicator?

Hmm try right clicking on the columns and selecting "Kind" as one of the columns, then click on "Kind" to sort by file type, and check for file types that the iPod doesnt support.

I had that problem a while ago. Found the offending tracks and converted them, now my track counts are equal. :)
