hi

i might be in the wrong place but here goes.
i have an alpine ida with ipod connection. sometimes when the ipod is connected it doesnt play. everything comes up, ie track, artist, the timer of the song but no sound. the song is playing but there is nothing sound wise.

i have tried other ipods and they work. but sometimes mine does so i cant way it up.

do you think its the unit or the ipod. its a touch btw.

if it was the ipod how would go about telling apple as the ipod works fine as an ipod if you know what i mean! its just in the car.

I assume this is using the iPod's dock connector to connect to the stereo. It is possible your dock connector on the iPod has a damaged pin which could cause an intermittent connection. If you can get the audio by gently wiggling the cable this is the problem.

I believe Apple does something in software to adjust from headphone output to the line output on the dock connector as well. Before you call Apple you should first try resetting the touch by holding the Home button and Sleep buttons till it restarts. If it is still happening Restore it using iTunes, Restore will erase all media files so be sure they are backed up on your computer. Even if you suspect the dock connector do these steps before calling Apple as they will probably tell you to do it anyways.

If your deck is the same as mine (CDA-9886), you have to confirm one of the sources is off, so the iPod source will function. I believe on mine it's D-AUX that must be off. Might be AUX, though.

Try shutting those sources off and then hooking the iPod up again.

come to think of it sometimes when it does work. if i nip out of the car and come back to start up, the music does start to skip or have an interference. if there is a dodgy connection in the touch dock, could i take it somewhere to get it checked out.
