Should you keep two copies of movies

How do people normally do this? Do they keep 2 copies of their movie files, one converted for the ipod touch and the original? or should you just load the original into itunes and sync it from there?

If I did it the first way then I would waste space on the hard drive. If I did it the other way I would waste space on the ipod.

What do you guys do?

For me, it's a similar situation to ripping CDs -- if the file is only ever going to be used on an iPod for earbud playback, convert to a compact format and trash the big file. But if there's any chance that a higher-fidelity version will be needed, hang onto the bigger (i.e. higher quality) file. Just like lossy music doesn't transcode "up", seriously compressed and reformatted video can't be transcoded back to higher resolution.

FWIW, more hard drive space would make these issues moot. $70 or so for an external HD would let you save everything, and provide enough space to back up your music and video files....
