I have password, asks to Sync, I-Tunes wants Password first....

I tried to sync, I-tunes asks that the 2nd Gen Touch be unlocked via the password, but when turned on the touch shows that it needs to be synced.... Can you say CATCH 22! HELP! What do I do now. I have the password, but no way to get to the password entry. Sync will not allow me to do so because it is locked via a password.... cyclical.... Stumped... bummed out! Suggestions????
