I have been experimenting with my iPod, sony ex71 earbuds, and music.
Here's my recommended setup:
Download mp3gain and normalize at 89db.
Turn iPod EQ on acoustic.
Take a 7mm mechanical pencil and enlarge the hole on the filter cap (making sure not to go far enough back to hit the driver)
