Newbie here so I hope I have posted in the correct forum. Anyway, I had an iBook G4 for the last 5 years with all my music on both the hard drive and an external hard drive. It was a great machine but got dated. I bought a 16gb 3g iPhone and selected 14gb of playlists and transferred them onto my iPhone from my G4. Now here comes the problem. I bought a MacBook 2 weeks ago and transferred all of my music and files etc onto my new MacBook via the external drive. While I was away I downloaded various albums from iTunes onto my iPhone direct. Now when I connect my iPhone to my new MacBook it wants to delete my previous Playlists and purchased music and Synch it with what's now on my MacBook. I obviously don't want to remove purchased music. I hope someone out there understands.

Thanks in advance.

i think i understand. you went to the itunes app on the iphone and bought music from there instead of on your ibook.

when you synced your iphone with your ibook, the music from your iphone should have transferred over onto your ibook. that way the music you purchased directly from your iphone should also be on your ibook. if that music was on there, when you transferred all your music to the macbook, your iphone direct music should be on your itunes account from your ibook.

ask any questions you have about what i have said if you need to. and welcome to ilounge.

Thanks Pretz. You kind of have the idea, except I have a new MacBook to replace my iBook, so it's not recognizing my iPhone and wants to synch all the music now on my new MacBook and format what's on my iPhone. It gives me this option when I connect the iPhone and I cancel it. So my question is, can I not transfer my existing music on my iPhone onto my new MacBook prior to formating the iPhone?

use the application called senuti (itunes backwards) and use the 30 day trial or buy for $18.

http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/

it lets you take all your music from your ipod and put it onto your computer. i have never tried it out but in other threads people say it is great. the reason i don't want to try it is becuase i have a g4 like you and it is getting old. i really should buy a new laptop but i just am too lazy to do it.

Thanks Pretz, I had heard of this application from the Apple guy I bought the MacBook from. BTW, you'll love the MacBook;) .
