2.2.1 update made all of my music unreadable (iphone disk usage showed 70% full but showed no music in itunes on phone). I tried doing a full restore but backups do not include the music on the phone.
I normally don't keep my music on my computer so this type of thing is an annoyance to reload my iphone.
could have just been my update failing but figured I should warn others.

It has worked fine for myself and millions of other iphone users. I think it must have been the machine you were working with. The importance of having a solid digital backup method is not ignored for long.

This is a problem that occured before the 2.2.1 update. I know because it happened to me. I think it may have been caused, in my case, by an interruption during a sync.
The only solution was to restore, and resync my playlists.

maybe it happened to me before the update but i'm not totally sure.

Maybe you should. Storage is cheap.

I have it all on external hd, but most of my ratings and configurations are now gone.
It's just a pain. The connection must have dropped as the iphone was updating.
