View Full Version : Fixes the iPhone's "phone" and "SMS" NEED to actually compare to normal phones?

Like Nokias, for example. This list goes on and on, but here are my main ones:
For the phone:
Speed Dial. Just let me type "2", hit Call, and call a pre-set number!
Call duration - come on. I need to know how many minutes I talked. Log this.
Delete single "Recent" call. I don't like the all-or-nothing approach. If I mis-dial, I'd like to delete it.
For SMS:
Delete single SMS messages. Again, same thing as the "Recents". I don't like the all or nothing deleting.
Timestamps on all messages. Correct timestamps, mind you. I still get wrong timestamps for recieved messages.
Character counter, so I know how many texts I'm actually sending.
"Message recieved" notifications, for when the person I'm sending recieves the message. I'd like confirmation, damn it.
Forwarding messages: I wouldn't use it much, but it's needed to get in line with a normal phone.
MMS obviously comes in as well.
That covers my main gripes about the actual phone. Any additions?

There is favorites which I kind of like over speed dial, but that's just me.
Duration would be nice, but I have so many minutes it doesn't bother me.
I only look at my recent calls for missed calls, and I delete them every night anyway.
I like the SMS as a chat block thing, it's actually kind of nice when you're bouncing text lines.
I havn't had a problem with time stamps, but I don't pay enough attention, people usually text me back within 5 minutes.
I have unlimited texting, so why would I need a counter :P
I never got a message received for when the text reached the other end. As far as I'm concerned, as long as the text doesn't fail, they're going to receive it.
I actually used forwarding messages, so this is kind of a let down.
As many work arounds as there are for MMS, it's still a pain in the ###.
You have to e-mail their phone number code which may or may not work. Then you can't receive any (I don't get the code to use at all).
My main annoyance is that Apple claims to have the best phone, but takes out things people use, such as the full bluetooth settings and video.
I'm sick of "maybe in the next iPhone/Version" because they should have got it in the first place.

Well the problem with that is this:
I
I
I
I
I
I
Lucky you :) You don't use this stuff, shame I do.
About the call duration, well I do actually have limited minutes, around 80/month, so I'd definitely like to know how much I just wasted. Same goes for the text messages, which is why I need the counter. Call duration comes first though, messages are less important and cheaper, so I don't really care how much I send out. Even if they gave me the counter I would type as much as I need, except like if it's 1 character extra than it should be, I'd just make it 1 character shorter.
I also like the SMS format, but deleting single SMS's would come in handy. They also need to turn the SMS preview off. Give us an option to either view or close it, and reply even within applications. Pain having to go to the SMS app each time and quitting everything else.
I do look at the recents often, actually, and have never cleared it.
Time stamps I use not when I text and someone replies, but if I need to revisit a texted message to know what time. Like, say a friend texted saying "I'll be over in an hour", and it's wrong. Then comes the knock on my door... Correct timestamps come in second after speed dial for me. Call duration is third.
The text recieved is a must for me. It's sent, okay, they'll recieve it eventually, but I should know when, especially with people who don't have good service and get the message late.
Favorites is fine, but it's not really private. A lot of people get all hands-on with my iPhone and some of them I wouldn't like knowing who I call/text often.

Where does this happen? You listed Nokia phone below, but it seems more of a provider thing, and I've never seen it before.

I previously had a really seriously majorly messed up Sony Ericsson phone. I'd send a message. 10 seconds later, I'd get a sort of "Message Received" notification, if the message was received. If the person I sent it to gets it an hour later for whatever reason, I'd get this notification an hour later. The iPhone doesn't do this. I know for a fact Nokias do, as my friends have told me, even though I've never personally used a Nokia.
The coverage is the carrier problem, that's it. I'm pretty sure it's the iPhone that won't show these notifications.

What I meant is, the phone won't just get the message when they get the text, the provider has to send it.

Yeah, I know that, I haven't changed carriers since. It's only one of two carriers here anyway and both give that notification as far as I know.

You use an unlock and out of US service though right? Could be why I havn't seen it
It really annoys me that you cant forward texts! That's one of the major annoyances, also Bluetooth...why won't it work like bluetooth should? I didnt realise Apple had done something different with that...
