iphone with new computer... :(

The computer with which my iphone was sync'd died. I have a new one, imported all my music and videos from my 80 gb ipod onto the new one and now want to sync my iphone to this one. what i DONT want to happen is ALL of my music library pooling onto my iphone and also losing ALL of my apps (something like 50!) just because I need to hook it up to this new computer...

how can i stop this erase and replace from happening but still be able to get updates, sync applications and preserve my carefully selected minimal music library and videos?

Can you hook up your old hard drive to your new computer ?
If so copy over your Itunes directory to your new computers hard drive.

Can't you just plug your iPhone into your new computer and when iTunes opens transfer purchases?

I'm pretty sure that will work. I think it will just ask you to authorize the new computer for your files bought in the iTunes store.
