Not really "new" in general (I've been alive for 40 years now) but new to the world of iPods. Just got my new 60gb beauty and I'm in the process of importing all of my CDs.

I hope to eventually contribute useful info for this community, but until then I will just sit back, keep my mouth shut and learn :D :D :D

I bought a 20gb 4G non-color iPod a couple weeks ago...been eyeing DAPs for some time and finally decided to spring for one...my commute is a couple hours everyday...decided that I needed to listen to something besides a bunch of baboons babbling on the radio.

I don't think I've ever been this happy with a purchase before...stopped by Best Buy and Circuit City a couple of times to check out my options...there were a lot of DAPs with a lot more features than the iPod, but I really didn't need any of them:

1) Color LCDs for photos...while nice, but useless for me. I don't care about album covers or carrying around pictures.
2) USB hosting...nope, don't need it.
3) Ogg, FLAC...I'm no audiophile...mp3s are A-Ok.
4) FM receiver and recording...this would be nice, but there is nothing but crappy radio programming around here.
5) Unholy long battery life...I don't know about you guys, but I'm close a power outlet or computer at least 80% of the day...I'm not worried about some long vacation I might take down the road.

The simplicity of the iPod just got me...it was amazing that every other DAP had 5 gazillion buttons, while the iPod just has a wheel...it is like the Mac/PC thing...the Mac still works well with one mouse button, while most PC mice have 2 buttons, and a clickable wheel. Its easy to figure out how to navigate everything...no remembering of what to press and when...

The sound quality didn't wow me at first...so I plugged in my regular Sennheisers...much better. I'm not a big fan of iTunes, but its pretty stupid-proof (at least for me). It didn't hurt that the white and chrome just looks awesome.

For an average joe like me, who just wants to listen to some music and podcasts, and doesn't need it to interface with 5 million other things, the iPod kicks butt.

Hey all, I just joined here on the recommendation of a friend of mine.

I'm considering buying an ipod mini 4gb (or, more accurately, get it as a b/day present)

So, I'm here to get some info on ipods in general.

Look forward to meeting you all

Yeah but if kaspowitz hadnt rolled a ball under mgraths foot before the match. Glenn would have been in at number 11 and woulda won it for the aussies, he is the second highest scoring number 11 of all time only to courtney walsh. I have suspicions that michael kaspowitz is acutally a pom.

Nah i hate kaspas, ever since that test match last year where he got belted in one of his spells and left the batsmen to recover the test, can't remember who they were playin. I still dont know why he went for the big cut when he had two days to make 2 runs.

Yep, Hardly Normal is probably one of the biggest stockist of Ipod accessories. There is also a store at Bondi Junction that has quite a collection of accessories for all sorts of things including the Ipod.

Myer is ok as well as is your local Apple Store.

What Australia is missing is the lack of Itunes Music store.. only have NineMSN or Bigpond, both of which are in protected WMA. Which means you lose a lot of audio quality burning to cd and then ripping into Itunes.

Well see that's when I dropped out of this thread - when the cricket talk started :D

I'm a chick - who can blame me?

I too am frustrated at protected WMA and the loss of quality by the whole ripping process. Bring on itunes.

There is also www.sanity.com.au (go to downloads) but it's the same format. They do have some artists that aren't available on the other 2 though.

As for on-line stores these guys have a big range although I have not dealt with them

As for your questions concerning bagss and Verita`, well, it's probably best that you never meet either one of them, but if you must know:

Try searching through their more recent posts--

Here is bagss':

And Vertita`s:

There doesn't seem to be a 'say hello' thread for newbies! :D Hi I'm Urban, or Lee, ;) and some of you may recognize me from Mac-Forums or Applegeeks. I'm POSSIBLY hopefully getting an iPod of somekind sometime in the future. I've been dying for one for a long while, and now that I'm constrained to being on Windows computers from dawn to dusk, I've decided to sell/trade my old blueberry iBook to get an ipod so I can at least listen to my mp3's on the bus back and forth to the school, on the bus to the mall, when I'm walking in the park, etc.

Course, not having a computer at home would hurt this. I'm hoping that sometime in future I will get an iBook ICE or a Mac Mini. Having Tiger would be nice too. Apple products are drooooool worthy. :3 I'd sell my PSP to get an iPod but I adore playing games on that little thing. A new computer might be what I can plan to save come next income tax return. What do you think?

I'm a Writer, Puppet maker, artist and Harry Potter enthusiast from Canada btw. CANADA! And I'm a GIRL. XD Totally female HP Fangirl mac user. Yay! :D

(I need to get a sig that has all that in it, what do you think? XD)

Planning to have that engraved on your ipod? It's clever, but I gotta tell you that it might not be such a good idea. Initially I was planning on having a message on mine as well but I asked around (the forums) first. Turns out that if you have a technical problem with it and you must send it back, it will take twice as long to get it returned to you. Sans engraving, they can just send you a brand new one, no sweat. Also think further down the road. You just might want to sell it and it'll be a tough sell with your name on it.

Just passing along the advice I was given. But the choice is yours, dude. Go nuts.;)

I've found that women (generally) have truly awful taste in music and therefore an iPod is not required. They can listen to the garbage they play on commercial radio.

Pah!!

You know those U2 ipods? Well I think they should discontinue the U2 model and make a series of bands.

These Ipods should have bands like
Metallica
Pink Floyd
Coldplay

and maybe even
M.C Hammer!!

Ok, maybe they wouldn't make an MC Pod, but you get the idea.

Wait! Maybe it would have an anti-crap music filter which stopped all that crap from going in!!

Reality Check- I'm dreaming.

Not even gonna bother defending myself, as I am secure enough in my truly UN-awful taste in music. Then again, you were probably being facetious (I hope).

Oh, and just curious - if someone were to have bad taste in music, why would that obviate the need for an ipod?

Maria Carey, Celine Dion, Boy Bands. I would like to put them all in a space rocket and send them as far away from a recording studio as they could get.

Send 'em all to preaching school and turn them into preachers- name one preacher (apart from M.C Hammer) who made it big from being a preacher.
One thats in the middle of a desert....So that they're nowhere near a recording studio. Maybe somewhere in Nevada, USA.

Hello, I'm new to the forums. Well, I'm not actually. I was registered here before. If you could delete that account (yelsnitnomis) then that'd be great. However, you proabably won't want new people just coming and saying blah you can delete so and so, would cause all sorts of problems, so...don't bother.

I've got a 3G 10GB iPod which has been beset with problems since January, hadn't used it since February, even bought a Zen Touch. My iPod's structure had gone completley up the wall and wouldn't connect to the computer.

However, after 8 months rest in a draw collecting dust on it's shint silver back it seems to be back and in form. Now I just need to get back my USB cable which my sister ran off with to her university (I'm at Bristol) to see if it all connects fine and dandy.

I'm 18, turn 19 in November and just started a ChemistryLaw (combined degree) at Bristol University (That's in England ;)). This looks like one of the longest inroductions, so I might just keep rambling on to get a record. :D

Nah, that wouldn't be cool. Anyway I support Leeds football team and grew up there. I enjoy a night out, and hate hangovers, I've got a short-term girlfriend, only been going out for 2 and a half weeks so far, but who knows eh?

I like a lot of music, my current band of the moment is my alias of choice, mainly Indie/Rock I like a bit of Post Punk, Electronica and Emo. Anyway, I won't bore you anymore with this introduction.

See you around.

Welcome to the forum.

On that part .... 1 drink, 1 water, 1 drink, 1 water, 1 drink, 1 water, continue until you can't walk or you're done. You should not get such a bad hangover then.

Hangovers are caused by dehydration so if you hydrate you should wake up feeling a tad better. ;)

Oh and hope your work your ipod out. :D

Or is 18 the legal age in Aussieland? Here in the US, the bastar... I mean government feels that 21 is the appropriate age.

Where are you at NBA? Oh, and welcome to the Lounge... again apparently.

Thanks for the advice, I don't usually end up off my face, don't like binge drinking, too expensive and drinks compliment the night.

Aye 18's the legal drinking age in Aussie (visited there in the summer, quality, last family holiday so was a blowout!) and Britain. Always annoys me if I'm ever in the US (looked at a few universities there) that I couldn't drink, so I'd be at university with no booze! :P

I hope the iPods all fixed, worked fine for 12 months before it went 'click tsk whirr' and died, well, went into a coma, in human speak.

That's great Nine Black Alps. Binge drinking is not good and part of my advice 1 drink, 1 water was to avoid this type of problem.

I should not have said "continue until you can't walk". Call it slight joke/slight should have clarified myself better.

The water is important though and I agree a few drinks is much better for a good night out. Getting out of it is fun for no-one. ;)

Also, one more question, I've seen it debated in the lounge, is this forum iPod focused, just iPods, or wider focused?

I think you will find it more ipod focused but there are other DAP users here and if you are exploring what to buy you can ask as many others have had past experiences with other music players.

Hey everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself. I registered for these boards as 'suburbanstylee' back in May of 2003 when I bought my first iPod but was never able to log in correctly. Since then I've just used the site for news. Anyway, I figured i'd finally speak up because I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to digital music and iPods, and I figure here I'd be in pretty good company.

I almost bought a MAC when the iPod first debuted. Instead I held off by convincing myself that Jobs would be insane to keep his little gem away from the millions of PC users. I was in the store the day the 3rd generation windows-compatible iPods were available. In total I've owned 12 different MP3 players; ever since the Rio PMP300 came out back in 1999. As for iPods, I currently own a 60GB video iPod (white), a 2GB Nano (black), and a 1GB Shuffle. In the past I've gone through a 3rd Generation 30GB iPod, a 40GB Photo, and 4GB Mini. Here are some other random facts about me and iPod's if anyone cares:

- My favorite iPod accessory has to be my Burton iPod "Shield" Snowboarding Jacket. I don't think I would have gone to class in the wintertime in college if it weren't for that combo.

- I've never purchased a song from the ITMS, but to get a sense of the newest iPod's video capabilities as soon as possible I did buy an episode of Lost.

- I have 5 sets of unopened iPod earphones sitting in my desk because I think they are very uncomfortable and annoying.

- I am a bit disappointed in the presentation of the newest video iPods. I miss the beautiful cube-packaging, not to mention the docking station, video cables and wall charger I've received in the past with new players.

Alright that introduction ran a little longer than I expected, but either way, hello everyone.

Another new guy here. I just got a 60g iPod. It's a lot of storage compared to the old half-gig iRiver.

I've been loading it up with stuff from CDs, about 3g so far. Next tricks will be loading from a bunch of wma files that I created by copying old vinyl. wma still has me stumped, but I keep reading that it's possible. I'll bang my head against that wall until something breaks.

I've been surfing iLounge since last month (October '05). I'm 22/M/OH (I grew up in France but that's another story). I am a first iPod owner, I got myself a 5G iPod video 60GB (black) last sunday, but I don't plan on opening it until Christmas. I cannot wait to use it! I currently use an Archos Jukebox FM Recorder 20GB, which is over 2 yrs old, and a pain to use lol. I go to the Ohio State University.

Also, I decided to get some Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5EB. I love techno, clubbin, soccer, and make music. :D

The soft sleeve you get with the iPod works wonders IMO. In my experience it's rubber cases that scratch your player (what happened to me once was that sand got between the skin and player, so it was scratching deep groves into it).

Ugh, made this post in the wrong forum, so here it is...

Hi there!

My name is Peter and I am the proud new owner of the iPod Video, 60Gb in black.

For years, I resisted the ipod - I stuck mainly with Creative products, but when it fell off the ladder at work, I looked at the ipod and WOW - I had no idea what I was missing. These things are awesome. And iTunes, where do I begin....

The guy at the Apple Store told me I should come here, he said I could get all the help I would ever need. I think I am doing ok, I moved all my music onto it, created a few playlists, and downloaded a couple of videos. So far, so good.

One question (I am sure I will have many in the coming weeks) - any suggestions for replacement headphones - I've got a full size set of Sonys for work, but looking for some good 'ear bud' ones - Deep lows and crisp highs are what I hope to get out of them, if possible.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hello, mighty nice site you have here!

Hello-I'm New to this board. Much more active than the Creative Zen forum..
I just got a iPod 5G 30GB Video black for Christmas,I love it!! I had a Creative Zen Micro 6GB for a few days and took it back and exchanged it for the iPod.
I like the iPod better, easier to use, itunes is great, etc. etc. I'm using my ipod in the car hooked up w/monster cable RCA interconnect and on daily walks with our dogs. Using Shure e4C earphones and Grado 60.

Is an battery powered amp necessary for the iPod when in the car and on walks? Does it sound that much better with the earphone amp?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL..

CHeers,
Robert

If your talking about an amp on the headphones like ones used in noise cancelling headphones, you dont really need it, unless of course you want to isolate the noise. i find your generally better off simply turning up the volume.

PS for future reference try putting you thread in the appropriate forum. I bilieve this one would go in the iPod forum.

Hi all

New to posting but not really to the site. First found my way here some time in '04 after I got my first 4th gen ipod and became somewhat of a frequent visitor when my ipod decided to die on me (:().

But I was a very good boy and Santy brought me a shiny new 5th gen video ipod. Came here to find out how in Gods name you actually get vids on it and havent left since.

I'll see ye around the forum I guess. :)

Welcome to the iLounge forums Robert!

Is an amp necessary? An amp is never necessary, and the same goes with an amp with an iPod, but if you like to have better sound quality, then do use an amp!

Hope you enjoy using iLounge forums!

And thesire, for future reference, don't say something unless you know what you're talking about. this is in the correct forum. It's mainly an 'Introduce Yourself' thread, and, I do believe they go here.

Another Newbie reportin'

Got fed up to the back teeth with my Creative Zen Touch - no customer support, very few add ons and that bloody touch sensitive strip thingy used to move even if I gave it a dirty look.

Looking forward to being a click wheel kiddy as opposed to a touch sensitive tosser.

I'm impatiently awaiting delivery of a 30gb black ipod - the only drawback is that I've got over 400 cd's formatted in .wma so it looks like I'm gonna have to rip them all over again

Welcome steveqpr. If your WMA files are from ripped CD's (unprotected I hope) ... then you can just import them into iTunes. No need to rip again. The only problems will be if you did click protection in Windows Media Player or DL'd WMA protected files.

Hi mel,

Thanks very much for the welcome.

Trust me, I'm old skool - although I can just about get to grips with mp3's, wma's, etc I still like to have the CD (or vinyl!) that relates to the music I'm buying. Consequently all my tracks are bought and paid for ;)

I knew about the import facility but I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that I'd lose some of the sound quality of the music if the files were reformatted.

Thankyou very much for the tip - I'll give it a go.

Ya, Mel pretty much summed it up there. Test out a few tracks trying to import them now. If you did rip them protected, then get to ripping them into iTunes from CD's. In the month leading up to my first iPod, I spent hours ripping all my tracks into iTunes. It's a great program and surprisingly fun.

Hi! I'm Robyn. I have been an iPod user for about 4 months now. I resisted for quite sometime and wish I had jumped on board a while ago. I bought the 4GB Nano the day the iPod video was announced. But, I was committed to my Nano! (I broke the dang seal...) I bought the 30GB G5 video in November. Best purchase EVAH!!!

Hey I'm a little new to this site. I like iLounge, people fix your iPod's problems right away. Well I have an iPod mini, and I guess it's already outdated. Now with the nanos.

A little off topic for a bit. How do you change the thing that says "Freshman Lounger" under your name?

Hello! This is my little, well, autobiography:
Brendan Patrick Welsh grew up in Folsom, California. He has lived there all his life, and he absolutly loves it there. He loves everything about it, the people, the places, the things, the name, the noun. He has fifteen years under his belt, and he is damn well proud of it. He is an intelligent person.

He is a Freshman at Folsom High School. He has lots of goals that he has set for his future, and he hope to achieve them all. He has many dreams, or wishes, of what he wants too do in his future. He wants to be a in film, as a director or something along those lines, not necessairly an actor, because he is "not good at being under the 'spotlight'...' He wants too be a pilot, and fly planes at airshows as a hobby. He wants to be an animator. He wants to be a milionaire. He has some sureal hopes, and he knows he will complete at least one of them. As long as he commits himself, he can do anything he wants.

He can be a really nice guy, and at times, he is sure he can be quite a jerk. If you ever need anything, let him know, and he will do all that I can to help you out. He loves his life, his friends, and his family, and his animals.
He am also not afraid to have a sense of humor, if someone makes fun of him, he usually makes it into a joke, but sometimes, it still hurts.

Brendan is crazy into music, and likes almost all genres, and artists, listed to his right. He also loves movies, television, and books, all listed to his right. Ironically. He apsolutly loves the beach, and wishes he could be live there, and be there all day everyday. Brendan hates his name, and would prefer it if you called him 'Welsh', even though nobody else does.

Brendan puts images he thinks are cool in his "who i'd like to meet" section, and the archive is right below that, so feel free to check it out. Also, Brendan changes his song almost daily, thats because he likes so many diffrent artists, genres, and songs that he feels change is needed. If you noticed, Brendan doesn't have a 'hero's' section, because he doesn't believe he has any hero's, well not hero's persay, but influences. He doesn't believe he has any influences, but rather, he is unique too himself, and nobody influences the way he acts, feels, looks, talks, thinks, and every other thing that he does in his life.

If you ever do get to meet him, there's no doubt in the world you won't like him, he's nice, and an all around cool guy. Feel free to contact him on myspace, instant messenger services, or email. Here is his information:

Hello all,
I've been lurking on this forum for a while, and have gained some good info, so I thought I ought to join and see if I can contribute anything. I have a 5G 60 GB iPod that I love. I upgraded from a 20 GB Nomad Jukebox Zen. Wow, what a difference.

Hey eveyone.

I've lurked here for long enough it seems, so I figured I might as well register (That, and the iPod giveaway for the 100,000th member... who doesn't like free stuff?).

Unlike some new members who have just been introduced to iPods, I've simply taken a while to sign up - I've had my iPod for about a year or so, a good old 20GB 4G. She's served me well, I must say. Not a problem to speak of, even with my habit of installing/uninstalling Podzilla several times and the occasional tumbles it's taken.

Well I guess that's it. I look forward to sharing such things as my car installation (both now and once I completely finish it), helping the less-fourtunate with their iPod/iTunes troubles, and just generally chatting about iPods, and I also look forward to the possibility of making some new pals while I'm at it.

Bonjour, everyone! After browsing the forums as a guest for a LONG time, I finally decided to join the community.

I'm a 14 year old girl from Ontario, Canada who just got her ipod a few weeks. So far, I love it. Its 1GB and the best invention on the planet. I know I don't need anything more than 1Gb, because I'm crazy and picky when it comes to my music and don't like filling my ipod with songs I barely listen to.

I'm in Secondary school, grade 9 and the year is almost DONE, THANK GOD! Can't wait to hang out this summer with my ipod. Yes, I personify my ipod. I called him Mr. Ipoddy. That makes me his pyscho spouse, no?

That being said, I think I know a lot of you already (although you don't know me) so that would constitute me as a stalker :D. Anyway, I look forwards to conversing with you all in the forums!

Greetz, I am Teh Crunch.

I am a long time pc user and am just now starting to expand into the realm of Apple products. My buddy gave me a couple G3's about 6 months ago, now I have an Ipod 5g to go with it. I received the Ipod as a gift for Father's Day, so the little runt is at least paying off now! (I kid, I kid) ;) So far I am diggin' it, tons better than the Rio Cali I owned previously. I found this forum initially through a search for Ipod accessory reviews, which are quite extensive.

Well that's enough for now.

My name is um, Mr. Biker, and I have a confession.

I don't own an iPod.

Until I destroyed it by accident by using electricity in a less than safe manner, I used an old iRiver ihp120 for years, and loved it. And wondered what all the iPod fuss was about. The iRiver was genuinely yummy.

I now use a Windows Pocket PC with 1Gb SD card for music, hooked up to Bluetooth Headphones. Nut as good quality as my Sony MDR-EX71's, but still pretty good.

Have always been a PC user only, unitl last week.

Now the proud owner of a new (to me!) PowerMac G4 Dual 450.... first time Mac user, and it's been a fruitful struggle to get it up and running the way I want! Forums much like this have been a godsend when things didn't go as planned....

Now a Mac user, and having used iTunes properly for the first time, I love it.

Getting a Nano at the end of the month. It's just too sexy not to possess.

There.

Next? :)

EDIT: Just got my iPod. Oh. My. God. It's TINY.

This is what I normally use for my music... display of my pocket pc.
