Hello,
I use itunes on my work pc and have everything synced to that.
What I'd like to do tho is have this matched on my home pc aswell, so I can sync from either machine and I'll end up with the same data.
To this end I really need to backup my current setup onto my home machine - but I don't know how to do this.
If I sync, then it will wipe what I currently have on the phone which I obviously don't want.
Can anyone help ?
Thanks in advance.

I don't think part will be possible unless you put your iphone into manual sync mode. Remember that an iPhone in auto sync mode can only be attached to one itunes library.
If by backing up you mean copy what you have at work on to your home computer then here is a solution. Do you have access to a portable drive that can hold all your music? If so copy everything to it and then take it home and move all your music into your itunes music folder. you need to place all the music into the same folder that it is in on your work computer. There is a reason for this. Then what you do is copy a file called Itunes Library.Itl from your Itunes folder at work and replace the one that is on your home computer with that file. By doing that the actuall library that is at your work will be the same as your library at home. All the playlists will be the same. The only problem is that when you chance something at work then you have to make sure you change it at home, or copy the .Itl file again. Its a pain but this is the only way I see for you to keep both computers the same. Maybe someone else can help you with the part about connecting your iphone to both computers.

You can do it, but I think you'll quickly get tired of maintaining the ability to do it. Besides having to ensure that both computers have the same content in exactly the same relative locations on their hard drives, each time you sync to one or the other you'll also have to transport the .itl library file back and forth between computers to keep the two databases (libraries) equivalent over time, not to mention adding new songs to one library or the other. You really want to do this?

I agree with Rock, the only reason I know how to do this is becasue me and my wife both have iphones and wanted to keep the same library on both, at least we thought so for the first week or so, then she started to buy stuff on itunes I didnt like and I started to listen to stuff she didn't like, so we scrapped that Idea. It really is tough.

All u have to do is to find some magic to synchronize your work and home PC and BAM! Both your work and home PC are hooked up to the Internet and can talk to each other right? :D
Seriously, am just playing tech games. Pity I have no such need presently, otherwise I may be pressed to find a solution.
Sum1 here mentions a WIFI dock remote sync.... wonder if it would do it across the Internet? <wow>

Do share! Gives me 2 short paragraphs, that's all I ask. The thin client loads off an external hard drive that I take with me. You have the PC's boot from the external hard drive. I also looked at a removable hard drive bay in 2 different computers, that way you could use like a sata2 drive as long as both computers had the same hardware types in them. I have also played with Microsofts virtual PC that can be ran off an external hard drive you load the Virtual PC image off the external HD and it can be ran on any pc. I think virtual PC from microsoft would be the easyest you can run it from any computer mac or windows and it's a OS with in an OS. so the hardware doesn't matter as virtual pc emulates the hardware
