I plugged my Nano and then my iPhone 3G into the PC (Vista 64) and noticed that both items wouldn't load into i'Tunes. Then, 10 minutes later, I unplugged them. I go back to iTunes and everything is gone. I mean everything. All my music, movies, purchases, apps, playlists, etc....just gone.

Now thankfully I make backups of my library, so I didn't lose my music, but it was no longer in iTunes.

Now I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it and it's like I'm starting from scratch. iTunes does not recognize my iPhone, and I have to resync everything from scratch. And even weirder, halfway through uploading my songs on a sync, the sync just stops...hangs there. I've had to unplugged my iPHone twice now to get it to start up again. WTF? What is this all about?

I also now have to go and redownload all my apps.

Anyone with similar issues?

Where was the original library stored? Did you check that location? Sometimes the library might not be visible in iTunes but may be in its original location still.

Shut your computer down for 3 to 5 minutes and reboot it. If you didn't back up the .itl file or the music folder that stores the applications then your out of luck for getting some of the original data back.

If you want the data from the files and have an iPod then you can transfer back to the computer from the iPod to retain this data and playlists. See this article for software that will work to do this Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-computer/). I know your library is back up but from your post it seems you didn't back up the files that contain the data of play counts, ratings, etc.

If you haven't read this then I suggest you do since it tells which files to back up to preserve data The Complete Guide to Backing Up your iTunes Library (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/the-complete-guide-to-backing-up-your-itunes-library/).

This info will help for future reference.

I know that you had your things backed up so you didn't lose anything.. when I first got my iphone something similar happened to it.. I had only had about 80 songs downloaded but had yet to back them up... when I called customer support they put back every song free of charge! So if any of you ever lose your music to this BS then make sure you call to get it back.
