I just started having a strange problem with the internet connection on my iPhone 3G earlier today. Even if I'm getting a strong signal on EDGE or 3G, the internet will work one second and not the next. For example, a web page will load fine then when I try to navigate to another page, it will say that it can't load because the server cannot be found or it will say that its not connected to the internet. The same thing happens with apps and the app store. Also sometimes when a page does load, it will not load the images on the page. The wi-fi however works fine. I have tried every solution I can think of to fix this problem. I have tried restarting, resetting, using airplane mode to reset the connections, resetting the SIM card, even a complete restore, and nothing seems to help. Does anyone else have any ideas or have had a similar problem. I'm starting to worry that there might be something wrong with the iPhone itself.

Have you tried to contact AT&T? Is your phone Jailbroken?

My phone isn't jailbroken. I haven't tried contacting anyone yet. I'm not sure if this is an Apple issue or an AT&T issue.

Sounds like a phone issue but try this. Put it in Airplane mode and then go and make sure you turn on the wifi, then try to go online. The phone now is basically a wi-fi device, almost like a laptop. If you can go online then its your AT&T connectivity issue, if you can go online then its definitely your phone becuase you are bypassing AT&T and using your home router to go online. This is assuming that you have a wireless router at home.

I can get online just fine using the wi-fi, but aren't the connections for wi-fi and EDGE/3G two separate hardware components in the iPhone? Meaning that isn't it possible for it to be an issue with connecting to only EDGE/3G in the iPhone itself?

I'm thinking it might be something on AT&T's end since the EDGE/3G service is working sporadically, if it was something with my iPhone I would think that it would just be not working at all. I could be wrong though.

That is what I was trying to help you determine. You can clear it up very easily by calling AT&T. If they are not reporting any problems, then maybe you can hook up with someone else that has an iphone in your area and see if they are having problems.

Yeah that's a good idea. I'll wait till tomorrow and see if the problem persists since it probably is just an issue with a local AT&T tower or something.
