I've had my iPod Touch for a month and I'm finding it hard to get to grips with how I can use this thing's Wi-Fi capability when I'm out on the street.
What do I need to do to locate and use hotspots? Are many free? Of those that aren't, what's the most economicale way of using these?
Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Regards
John

Try an app called WiFinder. While i haven't been away from my own network that much, it does a pretty good job of spotting other networks, and letting you know if they're open.

WiFiFoFum is another app that's useful for finding open networks.

Hi I signed up with 'the cloud' which offered a cheap rate (£3.99 per month) for the ipod touch sometime ago...it allows you access in certain places, like some train stations, outside most o2 shops & MacDonalds...theres a list of places available on their website. I've found it ok but could be better & some places which had it like Waterloo Station now doesn't.
Now I've signed up with Boingo which you can get from the Itunes Apps Store & you get a free months trial..its only about £3.75 a month & seems to cover those wifi hotspots covered by 'the cloud' plus I believe 'BT Openzone' (but I'm yet to get a chance to test that) which on my travels has been the most common wifi signal I've picked up.

An update...couldn't connect to BT Openzone via Boingo even though it certainly appeared that I should be able to. Username & Password was rejected.
I could access 'the cloud' at one Pret A Manger but not at another (that seemed to be BT Openzone), so maybe its limited.
Have emailed Boingo customer support for advice.
