iTunes purchases not playing properly on 2G touch

Hi all

My brother's 2nd gen iPod touch is playing up. After he had imported two CDs via iTunes, the purchased media bought from iTunes refused to play. He was a bit sketchy with the details, but I've never heard of anything like this before. What might have gone wrong and is it fixable?

He would need to confirm if the songs were still playable in iTunes. If so, he would remove the songs from the iPod and resync them to the iPod touch and see if that helped, if it didn't, he might try a restore.
