Thanks for the info. I've been using Yahoo! as the default search engine for that very reason. Good to see Google finally catching up!
... now, I just tried it. Yes, the result page looks much easier to navigate than the PC version, but it still isn't as clean or as iPhone-optimized as that of Yahoo! search. Hope it's just the beginning of the steps in the right direction. :)

The result page is formatted specifically for the small screen such as that of the iPhone. :)

this has been that way for ages man! I mean, since I have my iphone, the google results page is iphone formatted.
what really would be useful is an option in google to search for iphone formated websites; that would be cool

The Google home page (www.google.com) has been optimized for the mobile devices for a while, but it's only recently that they have optimized the format of the result pages directed from the Google search bar on top of Mobile Safari.

I don't think they'd know your nationality, but the service could be limited to the U.S. What does the result page look like if you search for "Taylor Swift" using the Google search bar on top of Mobile Safari? The optimized result page should look like this.
