Cannot Sync ringtones

I have a new 3G iphone running 2.2 and the lastest version of itunes on a PC. I have downloaded ringtones from macmost (podcast) as you do not seem to be able to get rintones from the Australian itunes shop. They have appeared under ringtones in itunes but will not transfer even one to the iphone using autosync. If I set it to manually manage then I can drag them into the iphone & they work. Any ideas as to why they won't auto sync? I have had ipods & itunes since they first became available so are pretty familiar with how it all works.

Only thing I can think of is plug in your iPhone, open up iTunes, go to the ringtone tab, disable all of them, sync the iPhone, then re-enable and sync again.
When you disable them and sync, do the ringtones get removed with the sync?

Thanks for your suggestion ReyZero. I've tried that and no deal. The only way I can get ringtones to work is to set to manual sync, then drag them into the iphone ringtones folder. As long as I stick to manual sync it's OK. If I switch to Automatically sync they then disappear. I'll keep searching for an answer.

I looked this podcast up in iTunes and it looks like a number of people have the same problem. There are some tips in the reviews. Have you tried them?

I would not have thought of that. The answer was there, you have to sync both the podcast and the ringtones. All sorted now. Thank you so much. This is a great forum. Merry Christmas to all iloungers!
