I bought iStorage ... it's got it's own directory structure ... I can copy photos into it ... back out of it ... but I can't create folders within PHOTOS or move them around.

I know ya can do all this with iTunes and syncing ... but I don't want to.

I saw the reviews for these "photo editing" apps ... and they talk about moving photos ... but most of those are to make collages ... and I think they mean ya can move the photos around in the collage ... anyhow, I still need to be able to create my own directory structure ... and I don't get the feeling these apps let ya do that.

In my searching, I've come across the term "jailbreak". I presume this has something to do with being able to use the iPhone more like a computer. Any brief summary on that would also be helpful.

I was also thinking of trying to write my own apps, but after registering, it says I need Mac OS X or something. I was hoping for a C# template. Anyhow, do I really need the Mac OS? I'm presuming I can't simply load that on a PC?

Thanks!

Why don't you want to? It is possible to sort them within the Photos App into folders.

What you'd do is create a folder on your computer and dump a copy of all the photos that you'd want on your phone (low-res if you prefer), even sort them by folders, and that sorting will carry over to the Photos App once you sync.

However, within each folder, any folders that you sort will not carry through. What will happen is if you sort your photos by folders already, and in one individual folder, you have the subfolders A, B and C, all the photos in A will appear first within that folder, and so on.

So far, I've had no problems or qualms with this method, rather than resorting to iPhoto or something to sync the photos from my computer.
