I am pondering getting an Iphone in a couple of months when my current contract is up, but I was talking to a friend that has one that I text all sorts of pics to on a regular basis. He in formed me that he has to log into a website to view the pics that I send him? There is no way this could be true, is there? Then he tells me that if he wants to send a picture he took with the phone, he has to send it to his e-mail and then send it? At the present I have a LG Shine and do not really care for it that much and like I said I want an iphone bacause I love my touch, but I also like to text and not have to log into my e-mail to check for pics? Somebody please tell me he just does not know how to use his phone..........

Yes he knows how to use his phone but you don't seem to know how to search. It's WELL known, and a very very OLD argument that iPhone can't send MMS.
The iPhone isn't for you.

You are correct iPhone doesn't do MMS, unbelievable but true.
Am on the camp that's ez enuff to have pictures at a server site (lots free), and just text your friend the link. I for one hate it when I need to use the phone in a hurry and some $&%^ punk decides at that second to MMS his xeroxed behind, and my phone is out of commission for the duration of the download. That's almost like spam. Just give me a quick link and I will look at it at my convinience thank you, don't hijack my phone.

There was an announcement, I don't remember if I heard it from iLounge or G4, but there was some sort of MMS application in the works. I'll go poke some google searches around and edit this if I find anything

SwirlyMMS is the only app I know that allows both send and receiving MMS for the iPhone. Unfortunately it's only available to jailbroken iPhone's through Cydia.

Do u think 'coz Apple charges too much for licensing, or does Apple have a dislike (bona fide reason or not) for MMS?

Photos can still be sent via e-mail.

MMS has a data cap of 30KB [edit - correction, most networks now run at 300k]. The iphone pics are way bigger. So if you MMS your iphone taken pic (or any pic taken by a regular megapixel camera) it will be compressed and look like ca-ca on the receiving end. MMS messaging is a dieing trend nowadays anyhow. It's easier to email it with most good phones having access to the internet nowadays.

This could be Apple's plan was to make everyone convert to e-mail'd messages, so a copy could be sent to a computer & device. I do enjoy using the e-mail, but the problem is older phones, especially those without a data plan, cannot send e-mail messages and use their text limit, or even e-mail at all.
Eventually technology will catch up, but what will be the new thing that's excluded.

Hey anybody look at the sticky above. There are ALWAYS workarounds.

Those work arounds don't ALWAYS work. Plus it's annoying to have to write out every contact with a specific email address for each number and provider, assuming you got one to work in the first place

I've had great success with this. I just the e-mail addresses to my address book as I go and once I have them they are done. It's not for everyone though...

I personally don't think it'll take much longer for the Web- and mail-capable cellphones and smartphones to outnumber the barebone ones. Wi-Fi and 3G are becoming more affordable and more accessible. The mobile OS's are getting better. There's a lot more mobile-phone-friendly Web contents these days than just a couple of years ago. Sticking to MMS is, IMO, a fruitless effort against the tide.

Yes... the iPhone does not allow MMS capabilities, however there are many apps and programs you can use to send MMS. Swirly MMS is one that can be downloaded to a Jailbroken iPhone. I have one on mine but does not work with T-Mobile's Sidekick Data Plan, however, the internet works... I dont know how... But I would rather have the internet over MMS anyway :D
