Itouch problem with itunes!!

i just got my itouch 2g and connected it to my itunes straight outta the case and it does not recongnize it and gives no notice it is connected at all and after about 2 minutes it says something can not connect ipod an error occured...

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help!!
