Hi all.
I'm going to be getting an iTouch 8GB 2G for Christmas.
I currently have a mini so it's a huge upgrade.
I'm wondering what the iTouch comes with. If I remember correct, does it come with a wall charger and headphones?
I don't want to be stuck on Christmas day with no charger and no headphones:p (although i could use the speaker =P)
thanks for your responses.

Headphones, iPod cable, screen cloth, and a dock adapter. Charger's haven't come with iPods for a very long time.

Apple's official charger will set you back by $29. Some third party accessories will charge the 2G iPod touch and are available for cheaper prices. Just make sure that you check for compatibility with the 2G iPod touch. Apple locked out the older 12V charging method with the newer iPods which means that many 3rd party accessories no longer charge the newer iPods. Some companies are keeping up with Apple's change while others haven't quite yet.

With that small box I doubt there is anything except the iPod itself.

The standard iPod dock connector has a pin for 5 volts (USB) and 12 volts (firewire) and this interface has not changed. But what has changed is inside the 2nd generation Touch, iPhone 3G, and 4th generation Nano. All three of these iPod products are now powered off the 5V pin on the dock connector, not the 12V pin. Some accessories still use the 12V pin for charging, and therefore are incompatible with the new iPod models.
It is not clear which pin this product is using since it doesn't specifically state that it is compatible with the newer iPods -- it just says iPhone and iPods, not which generation. Since it is not an automotive charging accessory, there's a pretty good chance that it uses the 5V pin, which would be just fine. For $7.79 it's probably worth a shot.

I use a universal USB charger from Monoprice. It works perfectly with my 1G touch. You use your existing USB cable.
go to monoprice dot com and search for item number 4874
You can also find good deals at deal extreme, meritline, and eforcity. All have great prices.

I think the charger cables for the 1G and 2G touch are diffrent. Not entirley sure on that but thats what I've been told.

The charging cables or pins are not different between iPod touch generations. The difference is that the 2G iPod touch will not accept power from the 12V pin on the dock connector. Accessories that will charge a 1G iPod touch may not charge a 2G iPod touch. It would be best to contact the accessory manufacturer to see if it works with a 2G iPod touch.
So that charger from monoprice may or may not work. It would have to send power through the 5V pin and not the 12V one.

Not sure about support for the 2G (I'll defer to those with 2G products), if you're looking for a whole bunch of charging options (via USB, outlet, car lighter, and external battery pack), take a look at the Lenmar Universal 7.8W Powerport Kit. I found it at OfficeMax for $49 and it works great. The battery gives me about 2 full recharges on the go. Very nice...
