Hi,

I am currently running OS 9.2.2 on my Mac. My father-in-law uses Classic but has Jaguar on his Mac. My question is, could I use my iPod on his Mac as well as mine?

I'd like to join the music store on his Mac and download new music to my iPod. Would the iPod just pick up on the new tunes without overwriting my complete library?

Yes, I could upgrade to X but would have to make many other changes as well.

Thank you,

Sean

Sean,

To use tunes downloaded from the IMS, you'll have to make sure you have firmware 1.3 on your iPod, since you'll need to use AAC files, and all files from the IMS are AAC.
Secondly, I'm not certain what iTunes 2 will do with AAC files. I know that if you have QuickTime 6.2 on your computer and you change the file extension of an m4a to mp4, it'll play in OS 9 (I tried it). But what I don't know is how iTunes 2 will treat an AAC file. If you're snycing any way other than manually, then you might run into trouble. iTunes might delete your AAC files every time you connected to your computer. Your best bet would be to set your iPod to be manually updated, buy a song from the IMS, put the one song on your iPod, and then connect to your computer to see what happens.

Hi John,

Thank you for the information...and here I was hoping I could just plug and "play"!
