Hi everybody!
I am seriously thinking of purchasing an refurbished 32 GB Ipod Touch, but I am wary of the battery life. The reason I am wary is because we bought my dad the new nano in Oct. and we have already had to send one unit back into apple because of battery problems, our replacement unit is still not getting great battery life either. We have not had any problems with our other units, an 80 gig classic and a 3rd gen. nano. I have also found some complaints from people online about the battery being far shorter than what apple promises.

So getting to the point here.... What has your experience been with the battery life in your touch?

Thanks for helping me make an informed purchase!! :D

Not so good! I wish it could be better. I always wish it could be better.

The battery life depends on what you are DOING. If you are playing games like Trism a lot, it runs the battery down quicker. I leave location services on all the time because I want to be able to use GasBag and other apps which depend on location. I access WiFi a lot and think battery life is good if I don't do too much game playing. You can play music for a very long time, video is reasonable but obviously takes a much bigger toll than music which takes the least.

With wifi OFF, I get no less than 5 hours 30 minutes when watching movies. Music playback, with screen OFF should net you close to 40 hours. Wifi ON and some games, can be a really battery drainer! :) Worst case scenario would be around 4-4.5 hours. That's still better than a laptop's battery life. My TOshiba Satellite can't make it past 2 hours. My wife's Gateway gets about 3 or more. and my new Acer wins handily with over 4.5-5 hours, thanks to the 6 cell battery. The first Acer Aspire One (netbook) I bought had a 3 cell battery, which was good for around 2 hours.

Coming from the world of Pocket PC's, I can say without a doubt that the Ipod Touch's battery life is outstanding! With WiFi on, my old Dell Axim X3i would be dead in about 1/2 hour. Music and video would drain the battery pretty fast, too (not nearly as much as WiFi, though). I'm sure that run-of-the-mill iPods get better battery life, but the Touch wasn't meant to be a run-of-the-mill iPod. Just make sure you keep the Location Services switched off for the Touch. You can watch the battery meter go down with that on!

I keep location services on all the time on my Touch2 so that it is available for the apps that need it, like GasBag which is great. I used to leave it off and then just turn it on when needed but have gotten too lazy. I check mail a lot, also sports scores at night and on weekends with Sportacular (the BEST app in the world for sports junkies, by the way, and it's free). I play music and do whatever I want in the way of surfing. Still the battery indicator barely moves unless I play games. That is the one battery killer that I can see. More so than video.

You didn't mention whether the refurb was a 2G or 1G Touch. Naturally, the 2G Touch has a much more improved battery life than the previous generation. However, the battery life still isn't as good as many (including myself) would like. For movies and music, it is really good. Using Wi-Fi and Apps puts a huge toll on the processor and battery life sharply decreases. While it isn't as bad as the iPhone 3G's battery, the Touch isn't too bad as long as you aren't always dabbling with Apps.
