Hello,
This is my first post here.
I have a 2 Gen iPod Touch I got it when it first came out. But now just a few days ago I picked it up off my shelf and saw the front between the home button and the bottom is cracked all the way through. I never take my Touch running or out where it could get damaged and I have never dropped it. I have my Nano for stuff like that. I'm wonder would Apple cover something like this?
Here's a picture of the crack. It works fine but I don't think it should have cracked like this when I treat it very well. I don't want it to get any worse also. I'm not too impressed that it did this after such a short time.
(I cant post the picture of it the forum said)
How about contacting Apple and letting them know what happened? These are generally handled case by case so it's tough for us to say they'll cover it, though they should.

They told me to go to an Apple Store...
But the closest one is on the otherside of the state from me 5 hours away!
Jeez.... I think ill just live with it...
If you start a support ticket online they usually will ship you a box to return it and will likely have a replacement within a few business days.

No they said I have to take it to an Apple Store to get replaced....
They wont send it. They said they have to see it before it's replaced...

Thats most likely, because they want to see the crack and then determine if they will replace it or not.

Well I'm not driving 5 hours for my iPod... I have had many other iPods with no issues.
They should have another method also. There arn't that many Apple Stores everywhere.

If you've had it for 90 days or more they will not cover shipping and handling but you should still be able to ship it back for warranty for a fee if you can't get to an Apple Store. You also have the option to buy the extended AppleCare warranty during the first years warranty which boosts the preferential 90 day warranty included to 2 years.
I had a nano go bad after the 90 day period about a years ago. Since the shipping and handling fee was almost the same price as the extended warranty I bought the warranty. They then shipped the box to me and repair the iPod with no additional fees. I had the nano back in about 10 days, but then I lost it a month later. :shake:
You still stand a chance Apple may consider it to be abuse and will not repair it though.
Yeah, sorry. I wasn't considering they may want to make the determination of whether it will be covered or not before having it sent in. In the couple of past experiences I've had with that, it was clearly a warranty covered issue both times. In your case, they apparently want an employee to make that determination in the flesh.
