I impulsively bought a 32GB iPod Touch (2nd gen) this October, after buying a Classic earlier this February. I guess I just was really "wowed" by the iPod Touch and its physical beauty... I found myself always going back to the Apple Store to play around with it. The gorgeous screen, the large album art, the no loading of songs or artwork since it's all flash based, the apps!!! The apps make it so fun.

I think Apple really did a smart move by taking the iPhone's basic selling points and making it available for those who either didn't want an iPhone or don't have AT&T. I fall in the former category - I only use my cell for calling and texting so a Razr has always worked fine for me.

I'm blabbing on... but I just wanted to give Apple and the iPod Touch props. :)

I know I'm going to get flamed for saying this but the touch isn't an iPod, its a stripped down iPhone. All of the other iPods are there own unique devices, the "iPod" touch is a stripped down iPhone, not its own unique product.

You're right about getting flamed. By your reasoning, EVERY ipod model could be considered not to be an ipod, because they are without some of the features of an iphone.

Stupidest post ever!

I don't think you should/will get flamed for your opinion but still I have to disagree with you.
Ok iPod touch is a stripped down version of the iPhone in the sense that it has all that the iPhone has minus phone and Bluetooth, but why is it not an iPod? It seems to me that some people thinks that iPod = click wheel, so if it doesn't have a wheel it's not an iPod. To me iPod equals to a multimedia portable player made by apple, and to me touch fits the description. I honestly think that iPod touch is a step ahead of classic (which is only better in terms of storage) and this is due to a bigger screen and a much better user interface and some nice extras like WiFi.
In the end, I know I could get flamed for this, but I think the iPhone it's really the product that I don't understand....a "stripped up" version of the iPod touch with some extras that I prefer to keep separated from my multimedia player (the phone) and others that, in the current implementation I find useless, like GPS

Ciao,
Simone

As far as music players go I still think the nano and classic are better options, in fact classic might be better for some for video because of the massive capacity.

iPod Touch is my least favorite iPod and here's why:
- pulling it out of my pocket all the time to change songs is annoying when I have work to do. This MIGHT not be so bad if I had a belt clip case for it or if apple would add forward and back buttons.
- Wifi is useless for me over here, I can rarely get it anywhere and generally when I want to get online there is a computer where ever I am at.
- On screen keyboard doesn't fly too well with my fingers.

That being said the iPod Touch is very nice to view video on and of course the app store is nice.

It'll be a shame if they ever start trying to eliminate the other iPods.

for a wifi/multimedia device,the touch is great.
for a car based or work shirt pocket based mp3 player, not so much.
the touch doesnt really cut it as a source for music in the car ,it stalls in the middle
of songs and needs to be tapped to get the song going again. and no buttons or scroll wheel makes it less attractive for an mp3 player at work.
having said that,i have and carry both, the classic for earphone listening while i work and for in the car as it seems to work better than the touch for these purposes, and the touch for when i want to get on the internet at work and other places(we have wifi at work),and for the games and the superiority of its screen for watching video. if wifi werent a factor and i could only have one,id chose the classic, hands down.

Not at all. An ipod is a media player. It is a media player sold by Apple. That is it. That is all. Ipod is nothing more than a brand name. They are the most successful, dominant series sold right now, but in many situations not quite the best for all consumers. That is why there are so many models, each to appeal to different markets. Your response was like that of an arrogant Apple fanboy who is wearing blinders to everything else out there.

To call any of the models to not be an ipod is simply ridiculous if you ask me. What made me respond to your post is the fact that this question/issue has been asked in this forum so many times, and I had never seen such an ignorant response before.

I adore my Touch2, but that said, do have to agree that the other iPods are a better choice to carry around for a music player. In the car, if you need to answer a call, with any of the other iPods, you can easily hit pause to quiet it. With the Touch, you need to "slide to unlock" before you can do anything. So not as good if you are in a hurry. If not, it is as good as any other iPod for a music player.

Can you clarify "Stalls in the middle"? I am a video 5g owner who uses my ipod all of the time in my car. I'm thinking about getting a Touch for Christmas and you comment has put fear in my heart.

Why does it stall?

Or is the iPhone an iPod with phone capabilities? :D

lol well said. I used to own a Classic and I too am waiting for something that lets you flip through your music faster w/o pulling it out of ur pocket but for now I am happy. I can't really ask for more with the touch because if they made it bulkier id be a bit disappointed and the battery life can only go so far until that technology catches up with the need.

As for apps, they are getting better by the day and I hope to see more interactive apps. The only place I see a bigger improvement on is the browsing arena and the day they get over the "Adobe" is my web-enemy phase and introduce flash for Safari things will start to take a turn.

IMO the touch is better than the iPhone - it's much slimmer, it has a metal back (instead of plastic), it has a faster CPU, it's available in 32GB, there's no chance that some idiot will phone you and interrupt your music or video watching. And did I say it's much slimmer.

Yes, the iPod Touch is the best iPod - the screen alone blows every other iPod out of the water.

Quick tip: If you double click the home button you will get music controls so you can pause your music quickly.

Thanks a bunch for that one. It would be REALLY useful in the car.
