firstly i should say that my phone connects fine with my mates apple router that he uses for air tunes.
i can see my network from my phone, it even has it ticked to say in logged onto it, but it never does.
sometimes it may stay connected for a min but it will soon switch itself off.
can anyone help me with this?
cheers

What firmware is your iPhone running? Is it a 1st gen or newer 3G?

Have you tried something as simple as reseting the router? Not sure if this would even make any difference, but just a thought.

im lost as to what is causing this to not work. Not sure if this is a problem or not, but I remember my PSP or Wii requesting TKIP instead of WPA (or vice versa, don't remember), maybe try playing with this different modes. I'll ask a buddy who knows alot more about networking later today for any other options.
The router may also be set to only connect to known MAC addresses (MAC address filtering).
If it is is it will appear from the iPhone to be unsecured but the iPhone will not connect unless you actually go into the Router and allow the iPhones MAC address.

how do I find the iPhone mac address?

I think the mac address can be found by going to: settings, general, about. It's listed as wifi address.

first off....try everything with all wireless security OFF (on the router)....does it work? Will it keep a connection?? Then try turning off any software firewalls you may have on your PC/MAC....does it work now?? I have had several linksys routers...and many problems as well....it takes some playing with to get things just right. But, you must first isolate the problem. Just because the router sees the phone and the phone sees the router....doesnt mean that they can/will transfer data.
Your problem could be with the router....you may need to reset. See linksys for the proper method. Usually to hold reset for 30sec, then unplug (while holding reset) for 30 sec, then plug in...hold 30 sec, then release reset button. Crazy??
FYI...i usually dont mess with WEP, WAP, TKIP security stuff....it is easier to just use MAC address filtering. For this, you just specify the MAC address of each of your devices and the router will only communicate with such. Iphone MAC address is found in the settings menu.
Good luck!

Hi there, as a possible 'quick fix', stick your iPhone in the fridge for about 20 minutes, then remove it and try to connect. Let me know if it works.
(and no, I'm not joking!)

My router was set to accept 802.11b only. I changed my router to 802.11b and g and the. Everything worked. Maybe check that setting?
