Hi all,

I have just acquired an iphone (1st gen) and I notice that for no reason, sometimes calls go straight to voicemail, despite having strong signal. Why is this? Does the data connection interefere with calls? I am running the 2.2 software, and the phone is jailbroken and unlocked to the Orange UK network...

It's annoying the hell out of me so any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

S.

If it's sometimes it could just be a provider thing, I've heard some people recall that happening to them on ATT, but I've never had it happen once. I have had times when I have full bars and 3G but I get a call failed when dialing out or 3 seconds after answering. Pretty awesome ^^

That has happened to my iPhone 3G. Calls to it kept going straight to my voice mail on the day I bought it. Restarting the iPhone fixed the problem, and it has never happened since.

I read elsewhere that the call may be going to voicemail when the phone is connecting to my mail server via EDGE/GPRS. So I have set mail checking to manual, hopefully this solves the problem...

Thanks for the responses though.

Oh yeah, I've read about that too. Totally forgot about it when I first responded to you...

It might not be a phone problem but a wireless reception problem. I've been with AT&T for years and when I'm in my office this happens to me quite frequently using various phones over the years.
My office is on the 43rd floor of a building in NYC and reception is spotty at best even though I get full bars showing on the phone.
Just a thought...
