my condolences. isn?t there some form of insurance against the loss of your possessions? f.e. when you lose your cycle the insurance pays you a certain flat amount.

You have learned a valuable, but costly lesson, never loan money that you can not afford to give away or let anyone take your ipod.

Yeah, I'd get your buddy to pay, even if in increments. Really. That's quite irresponsible of him to just "lose it"

As a parent, I would hold my kid responsible if she lost something borrowed from a friend. Talk to his mom! Somebody needs to set that little rat straight!

I agree, talk to his parents or something, or have your parents talk to his parents.

While it was bad judgement to loan something so expensive to a friend, ultimately he was the irresponsible and careless one who lost it and should do what is right.

Can you fully trust this friend? If he knows you won't force him to pay, then whose to say he didn't just lie to you and decided to just keep it. When I was a teen I had a friend who I thought was trustworthy... but ultimately he wasn't. Just another reason to hold him accountable for it.

Looks like someone's going to be getting a summer job in a sweat-shop. At least that's what I'd have him do..... ;)
