I just bought the new 2nd gen. iTouch, fresh out the box. I've charged it and everything, but when I try to connect to my wireless network, it says "unable to connect to network *****" But my uncle he has a 1st gen. iTouch and that connects to the network just perfectly. I'm pretty sure i've entered the password right and everything. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?

I don't know why some people are having difficulties. I've had mine for a month and never a problem. My wifes is two weeks old again no problem. Lots of friends and coworkers have 2g's and they also don't have a problem.

Hopefully when Apple release the next firmware update it fixes the problen for people that are having probs.

My 2G Touch has the same problem. Open and WEP can connect fine, but WPA is tenuous. I eventually got it to work though. I got it to connect once and after that, I do not manually select the network. I will automatically try my network several times and eventually connect. If after 30 seconds it does not connect. I go to general settings and turn wifi off and then on to reset the wifi search. I hope they fix things. People at work say their iPhones connect really fast. Noticed on a lot of posts that people with D-Link routers seem particularly affected.

Okay, now i have a new problem. I went to my cousin's and tried to connect the internet there. it says it connected, but safari says "safari cannot open this page because its not connected to the internet"

oh, and update on my previous problem. when i turn the password off my internet, i could connect fine. so it must be something to do with WPA.

I've had this problem as well. What you need to do is turn on wi-fi (and make sure it says you're connected to the internet) and then turn off your iPod. When you turn it back on you should be connected. Hopefully they will release a firmware update or something soon to correct this...

I have the same problem. Also, it doesn't always sniff out a network (even a strong one), but if I know the name of the signal and I manually type it in (by selecting other) it connects to the network with a "check mark", but the wifi itself doesn't turn on at first. I need to turn the wifi off, then turn it back on again and manually connect (again) and only then do I get the wifi semicircles signal showing a connection.
Annoying bug that I deal with......

yes, I have a DLink 615 router that worked just fine with my 1st Gen iTouch (and everything else) but with my 2nd Gen iTouch it will sync up only about 5% of the time.

Very annoying.

No one seems to have any solution except:
- keep turning WiFi on and off, turning router off and on, turning iTouch off and on;
- remove WPA protection and run your router either unprotected or with WEP.

Well, that last solution is totally unacceptable. WEP has been hacked & the codes broken long ago, and as for going totally naked: well, good luck in this day-&-age.

There's ALWAYS some sort of problem or bug with these Apple products, eh? and I'm talking about foreseeable problems.
Take the one about the change in charging system used in the 2nd Gen iTouch:
How many of you new users of these new units have discovered that practically none of your docking accessories will charge your iTouch any more? Sure, if you bought it VERY recently it has a better chance of working, but if for example you bought an AltecLansing portable speakers/FM/clock unit for $160 just 3 months ago? forget it! your iTouch will dock there, playing music or waiting to wake you up to music but ............... it won't be charging. So come morning the iTouch battery will be dead and ..... you'll be late to work.

And of course NO WARNING whatsoever from Apple that this big change in charging method had been introduced with the 2nd Gen models. that would be too much corporate responsibility to expect from Apple.

I just don't understand why everyone rails against, say, Microsoft, but everyone just bends over and takes it from Apple? why don't more customers scream bloody murder??

i guess 'cause there's too much "sheep" in our DNA and not enough "wolf".
