I have searched the forum, but hopefully someone here has experience with this ipod-in-car solution. I have two cars: one with an Alpine HU (CDA-7837) with Ai-NET Connector in back and one with an Alpine HU (CDM-7871) with DIN Connector in back. Besides the KCA-121B (AI-NET to Female RCA) cable, KCM-122B (M-Bus to Female RCA) cable, and two- RCA Plug to 1/8" stereo jack cables, is there anything else I will need to buy, do, or instructions to follow other than connecting the cables between HU and ipod to make it work? Then when I power everything on, how do I select the ipod as the source?
Thanks

That should do it as long as you can get your HU to AUX channel.
The manual should have information about changing to AUX. Or maybe the CD changer. Mine changes on the Band switch. CD to Radio to AUX.
Good luck!

So far I've only tried to hook up the HU with the Ai-NET connector, but it won't display any AUX channel to switch to. I've tried BAND and SOURCE, but it's not there. Any ideas?

I used to have a 2002 Alpine HU (CDA-78xx) and in the setup menu you are able to turn on and off the ability to skip the AUX input; see if your AUX it set to OFF.

My HU is a little more than 5 or 6 yrs old. It doesn't have any "setup menu". I guess they added that feature later.

You've checked the manual? If you've lost that call Alpine.

Yes, it just says to hit "source" button or "cd changer" on the remote, and it says how to control the cd changer, but nothing about "Aux". I'm beginning to think that you have to send a signal somehow to tell it to switch over, and without actually having a changer, I don't know how else to do this.

I don't know if its as simple as this, but I got a question.(I don't think it is but I'll ask...)
Do you have a cd changer in your car??? On some of those older units, I think there's only one input that you can actually connect to and that's for the changer.
If you only have a HU and no cd changer in your car then CD changer is your source. Switch to CD changer on your HU and play your ipod.

Only if I was a customer. Not a potential customer.

It turns out the Alpine HU (CDA-7837) with Ai-NET Connector in back does not have the capability but the Alpine HU (CDM-7871) with DIN Connector in back does. Off to replace the old HU!

I have the Alpine CDM-7871 head unit, so how do I hook my ipod up to it?

You need the KCM-122B (M-Bus to Female RCA) cable, and one- RCA Plug to 1/8" stereo jack cable. Your HU manual shows the procedure for selecting AUX.
