View Full Version : Play 1 podcast/song then stop?

Prior to upgrading to 2.1, my Touch would stop when it reached the end of a podcast or track.

Since the upgrade, it plays the next podcast and so on. Trouble is, I listen to podcasts before going to sleep - no problem when it switched off after a single podcast - now I awake to find a flat battery as the Touch has been playing podcasts all night :(

Repeat and shuffle are switched off (white) in the scrub bar.

Is there an option to make the Touch play one podcast/song and then stop?

I have a feeling I've missed something obvious, but I can't see it!

Thanks,

Chris

The 3G nano plays podcasts consecutively, which is nice. You can disable this behavior by putting the iPod in shuffle mode. Unfortunately this doesn't work on the touch.

Try setting the sleep timer. Go to Clock then Timer and set the "When Timer Ends" options to "Sleep iPod".

You can disable this behavior by putting the iPod in shuffle mode. Unfortunately this doesn't work on the touch. You sure about that? If the podcasts are tagged as "Skip when shuffling" (they are by default), then when the first podcast completes the Touch will not play another since they're all tagged to be skipped in shuffle mode.

For bedtime listening I just add the files I want to the On-The-Go playlist.

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I'll try the timer and the On-The-Go playlists as work-arounds - until Apple resolve this new "feature". Are you listening Apple!!

Yes I'm sure. I tried it. I hoped it would work but wasn't surprised when it didn't.

I really like the touch but it has way too many bugs and inconsistencies. It's like my old Creative players, things do what you expect most of the time but not always.

I was hoping that the good people at Apple might have included a fix for this "feature" in the latests software, 2.2, sadly the Touch still insists on playing continuously.

Come on Apple, bring back the play one podcast, then stop - please!

they did at least reorder them so if u play the most recent (as i tend to) it will stop after that

You could put the podcast you want to play in your On-The-Go playlist on its own, then use the iPod's auto-sleep to turn itself off one that's finished playing.

You're right, I could do that, but it doesn't suit my listening pattern. I take the ipod on my frequent travels, loaded with dozens of podcasts and I like to pick and mix my listening according to my mood. I often listen in the middle of the night, when I'm struggling to get back to sleep, picking a random podcast works well for me. I also like to go back and finish listening to a podcast that I fell asleep to!

Is it really so much to ask that the Touch stops when it reaches the end of a podcast - just like it used to?

I need some noise in the background in order to go to sleep. My wife is the opposite. So I do the same thing and listen to podcasts to fall asleep. I had the iPod Video and it worked great for this... one podcast and it shuts off. Now that I have the Touch I have to see which work around works for me.

This should be an easy fix for Apple, no?

I would agree Bill, I'm sure it can't be a big deal for the programmers at Apple to resolve - until then we wait with flat batteries in the night!
