I just got a Touch last night off of Amazon.com and I noticed something a little odd, but maybe I'm just nitpicking here. On the bottom of the front screen where the metal part is (below the home button), it doesn't look like the iPod was finished correctly. As in, there are very small pieces kind of hanging out that doesn't make it look as new as it should be.
Also, I applied a Best Skins Ever film last night and after being unhappy with the results, I pulled it off today. So far it looks the same as when I first took the Touch out of the box, but there's this very tiny "circle" at the top of the screen on the black surface. You have to look closely to see if it's there (if it's there at all for you guys). I'm just wondering if that's normally there for all Touches or is it possible that an air bubble went inside?
Thanks.

That circle is in the upper left side. That's the ambiant light sensor. It's on all the Touchs.

Thanks for relieving my doubts. I admit I was pretty scared the moment I saw it.
Do you know if my first problem is normal as well? To be more descriptive of the problem, in the gap at the bottom (between the metal part and the black surface), there is small stuff hanging on to the metal part that looks either like dust that can't get out or a part of the actual metal that wasn't finished.

The circle at the top is the ambient light sensor. It's used by the auto-brightness feature to adjust the backlighting.
Unless it was listed as a refurb it's new. FYI, Apple refurbs look brand new. The screen on my 1G nano died and the replacement that they gave me was perfect. Not a scratch on it.
Have you tried removing the small pieces? When I opened my 3G nano it had a spot on the face plate. Originally I thought it was a blemish in the finish. I was able to get it off with a lot of water and rubbing. I don't know what it was but was surprised that it left the factory like that. This could be something similar.
Amazon is good about returns and replacements. Give them a call and they'll most likely ship you a new one.

Thanks for the help.
What would be the best way to get rid of the dust stuck in the little gaps? Also, since I'm going completely caseless, what's the best known microfiber cloth for cleaning the Touch?

The cloth that comes with the Touch is pretty good.
As for removing that dust/whatever it is, I'm not too sure. Have you tried an old toothbrush to get down in the groove? Just a thought, not sure if it would work.

When I first got my 1G touch, there was some dirt or what looked liked chipped paint at the time on the bottom left of the silver border. I just scratched it off with my finger nail and it looked great.

Looks like you had the same problem as me, except scratching it out with my fingernail didn't work. I just let Amazon know I'm returning the iPod. I thought it was pretty cool that they don't wait until they receive this iPod first to send out the new one.
