Hi, if I get the fring app for an iPod Touch, would I need an external microphone, or does the iPod already have a microphone?

This Griffin Smarttalk (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/smarttalk) works well on the Touch - just plug your headphones into it.

What about those new Apple headphones? Those have a mic on them.

I think Apple missed their release date, now that you mention it and I stop and think.

Wouldn't the iPhone earphones work with it?
It's got a mic plugged into it.

Does anyone know if using fring for skype-to-skype voice calls will work on the 1st gen touch?
And if it is possible, do I need a microphone that connects through the dock connector, or could I use the Griffin SmartTalk?

No it doesn't work - I can confirm this by the looks of envy from 1st Gen owning friends.

Dimmer, thanks for your answer! I figured it wouldn't work, but it didn't hurt to ask!
Now, I have to decide if it's worth it to buy the new touch for that feature (and more space, I have the 8gb, and I'd be getting the 16gb).... I'll be living in Russia and Europe and won't always have my computer with me, and cell phone/calling cards just get waaayyy too expensive.... decisions, decisions!
