The past few days my ipod has started giving me some issues, whatever I'm doing (listening to music, in an app, using safari, using calendar, mail, etc) it just stops/quits it and goes back to the main menu. Some apps do it more than others and with music it seems to be getting worse. Now I can barely get through an entire song without it stopping the music (and fully stopping, not just pausing) and going back to the menu. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

It's called crashing... Apps crash just like some computer programs do

Ok but it doesn't just happen sometimes its to the point where some apps aren't even usable.
And what about the music? I've never heard of that happening before, and I can't even listen to it unless I'm using iTunes since the music crashes so often.

If it is crashing often you may want to Restore it using iTunes which will reinstall it's software and fixes many issues. Restore will erase the media files off the iPod, but contacts and calenders as well as other info should be restored from the backup. Some believe installing Apps directly from the Apps Store through the touch or iPhone has a tendency to make the device unstable. The Apps will be re-installed from iTunes through the process which helps. If it continues to crash after Restored I would suspect one of the Apps is messing up the iPod.

I have a 2G Touch and I was having issues -- mine would just stop playing (but not crash) as if it hit the end of the song and the playlist.
I did hard resets two or three times over a week's time and it hasn't happened since.
It's like what I experienced with Palm applications awhile ago; if your problem(s) recur, remove applications you don't care much about one at a time and sync and then do hard-resets each time you remove an app, eventually you'll figure out what's causing the problems, and, ostensibly, solve the problem(s).
