I went to my local Apple store today and looked at the new Touch. I played a few songs, and tried to try out Safari, but was being rushed buy the grandparents. The only thing holding me back right now, is my dad, and the wifi problem. Anything else I should know? Thanks in advance folks.

I would consider trying to talk them into an iPhone if you can. Speaker is better, it has a phone built-in, the design is better, internet access without wi-fi, etc.

As far as how it features, the only major drawback I can think of immediately is that manual mode is crippled, as is playing songs on the device through iTunes.

Neither if those are really that big if a problem for me. The not being able to jailbreak isn't that bigba deal eathier. I was more worried about the wifi issue.

Wifi works fine on mine... What exactly is the common issue?

what is the wi-fi problem that you are speaking of?

I guess people were having a problem where wifi would only work if they turned it on/off/on. Otherwise you couldn't get a connection.

I only have to do that sometimes after I turn off the wifi... You just go into settings and turn it on/off/on to get it to work... 3 taps

You do NOT have to power it off to get it to work

There will probably be some sort of update to fix it anyway

Well that's good to know. Now, still, convincing my father its a good purchase. My 1G still works fine, so that maybe a problem. Oh well, maybe I will wait for the 3rd gen, by then my AppleCare will be expired so it would make scene.

Its definetly not worth it to upgrade to a 2g touch from a 1g. The 1g does everything the 2g does minus the speaker and volume buttons (which is a pretty petty reason to upgrade if you ask me :) ).

Yeah, I agree. I will wait until next September to roll around and see what the offer is at that time. Thanks anyway guys!

Your WRONG 1g owner - the 2g sounds BETTER.

Yeah, thats right. The upgraded sound chip. That's okay, I still think mine sounds good, so thats not a huge deal. I will hold out for the 3rd gen.

Yeah upgrading every 2 years is the way to go

I say wait

Hopefully this will be my last iPod and my next upgrade will be the iPhone :)

Yeah, that would be nice too. But, Im only 16, so I have a few more years to go until I can open my own AT&T account.

iPhone comes with a monthly bill.

I look forward each year to September, it's my birthday month and my new "iPod" month :)

Yeah, my birthday is in September too. I usually put it on the list, but I end up getting it myself.

Well, for me, I just have to wait for when the iPhone comes to Verizon :)

That's not possible. The iPhone currently runs on the GSM network (AT&T). Verizon uses the CDMA network, so unless Apple comes out with an iPhone CDMA (which I doubt since Verizon is infamous for crippling their handsets), you're SOL unless you ditch your Verizon contract.

All the rumor sites say it's coming in January 2009

We'll have to just wait and see

I would have no problem if it was just a phone, without the "internet everywhere" capabilities... I honestly am just yearning for the ability to just carry one device. Just looking to save pocket space. I love my iPod touch and all I really want to add to it is the Phone and SMS. Just don't want 2 devices is all

No. Most of the rumor sites picked up on 1 article that had quotes from a supposedly high up Verizon source. That's it, and not exactly reason to think this will happen.

Either way, I would be very surprised if the iPhone NEVER came to Verizon... OR at least elsewhere than AT&T

If not January 2009, I think it will come at some point. If not, then I'll make the switch eventually. No biggie. I'm on my family's plan anyway.

The 2nd generations home button has also been completely redesigned. Lots of people have had problems with their 1g home buttons failing.

Yeah, it felt different to me at the Apple store. Mine still works and pretty much looks like its new, so I'm just going to hold out until my AppleCare expires.
