hello everyone. a few weeks ago I bought a touch and returned it because I was afraid of the frailty and/or longevity of the device. Ive read of alot of problems on this site and Im a little nervous to drop $230 plus tax (thats alot of money to me). so whats the lifespan of a touch? non-replaceable battery makes me a little nervous. a screen that is constantly touched seems like it could be trouble.

I would take very good care of it, but I know some things will fail regardless of how well you treat it.

You can't predict longevity. There's so many variables.

1) It hasn't been out very long.
2) It's based on how well you treat it.

My advice? Buy the apple care and a great case (for example: RebelTouch, iClear). There's no reason why it shouldn't last you years.

I have friends that own the 3rd gen iPod and they still run great.
