Ok...i dont even got one yet but im getting a 16g for a sweet price. What does jailbreaking do? Is it worth it? Can i get all the apps for itouch and iphone free? Just wanna know some basic stuff. Any info you got would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just JB'ed my iPhone 3G over the weekend and IMHO, these are the benefits (in no particular order):
For the enthusiast (non-technical):
o Highly customizable (themes, wallpaper, sounds, etc.)
o Video recording
o Lock screen can display unread email, SMS, upcoming appointments, etc.
For technically inclined:
o You can do much more if you feel comfortable navigating around the file system
o Application development (without the limitations of the Apple SDK)
o Control background processes
Disadvantages:
o You do have to keep on top of what is running on your device, so as to not drain your battery faster than it already does
o Prepare to re-enter much of your stored information (wireless access keys, bookmarks). I heard that you won't lose these things, but I did. Luckily I exported data from my most important apps beforehand.

this is for ipod touch not iphone. Any help there?

As far as Ipod touch (I have the 16G) and the Iphone are concerned, the Jailbreak is very similar. Eye-Fone listed it out for you.
There are a few things like Winterboard that you can only get by jailbreaking.
Its worth it.

ITs not that people arent that helpfull on this forum, its that you ask a question that gets asked all the time. There are alot of reasons to jailbreak, winterboard was the one that sealed the deal for me. Instead of being sarcatic and saying no one is tryin to help you, next time do search:)
