Why am I not allowed to download apps from the app store (or iTunes for that matter) over 10mb? I get a message that says I need to use WiFi. If I pay for my 6G of data use per month I should be allowed to use it right?

Because the cell phone company/apple/partners limits the bandwith usage, everyone faces this problem. And has been detailed many, many, many, many, many times.

Perhaps, but I haven't seen it mentioned once.

On top of that, the message appears to only come from apple sources which makes it sound like an Apple limitation on apps/iTunes. Does this happen for long attachments in e-mails?

Apple does place certain limitations about how their data are to be accessed. Remember, you can only access iTunes Store on WiFi, not on 3G. If Apple doesn't want you to be able to download large applications via 3G, that's their call, and I'd say it's totally conceivable.

I think the problem is partly bandwidth. Consider this though; AT&T has terrible 3G service as it is for Internet, so imagine everyone all at once taxing their network for apps. Thats just risky. This would especially hold true in mountainous passes etc. It's like rolling the dice with bandwidth.

I really think it's 2 part. to limit the usage of the 3G network, and the possible issues of downloading 10MB+ apps off the 3G network.

I think it's just so everyone has the best possible experance and minimize issues.
