iPhone broken dock connector

Hi all,

Seems the bottom connector on my iPhone 2G has broken :(

The iPhone will charge when plugged into the USB wall charger, but it wont make USB connection (which also means it wont charge from the PC) with any of the 3 PCs i have tried (have tried 2 diff cables and a dock).

Has anyone else had this problem with an iPhone?
Is it possible to replace this myself (i am an electronic techie, so can solder, etc)?
If so, where could i get a replacement connector from?

Since that's a part of the motherboard I would think you'd have to get a whole new one. They don't sell those parts individually at any sites I have found thus far.
