I've been reading lots on the iPhone batteris and lion batts in general. I love the iphone but get so worried about the battery life. I've been reading that it may actually be beneficial to leave the battery plugged in to reduce the number of charging cycles and thus increase life of the battery overall. Does this sound right/logical? So when I'm at work and at my desk, can I keep my iphone plugged in most of my 8 hour day and not hurt the battery by overcharging etc...?

i would suggest that u do not leave it plugged in... i have done that and screwed some of my phones..and so im really cautious with my i phone.. jst charge it 100% and donot charge untill the battery is like drained out.. donot charge it at 50% remainin as this shortens the battery life as well... but most importantly do not leave it charged in as its definitely gonna worsen the batter life...its similar to laptop battery....

I would be careful to be honest. I have overcharged my fair number of gadgets in the past at the detriment of overall battery life.

I think it would just be sensible to do with the iPhone what some people do with their iPods: Do a full first charge, then let it completely die out, then only charge when the battery is really low then charge to 100%.

Leaving your phone plugged in when you aren't using it it will NOT over charge, however i'm assuming that you will use it throughout the day so it will be using a little bit of the battery then charging it right back up, using a little bit of battery then charging it back up etc.... through the whole day. It's not suppost to hurt these new breed of batteries but i wouldn't take my chances.

that's really weird, because after reading more on this site (from certain battery threads I've found citing jhollington) and batteryuniversity, what you guys have said above seems different from the concept that you can leave it plugged in with no adverse affects, especially if you are only doing it for 8 hours...

Still confused because there is no consistency in what people are saying...

Thats because no one knows for sure..... my theory in situations like this is... do whatever you like. I leave mine plugged in sometimes at work and sometimes i don't. I don't like to stress over things like this too much to where you can't even enjoy your new toy. either way after 3 years this guys battery will probably just like this other guys battery even though they were charged completely different that whole time.

I can tell you it's not a real good Idea to leave it pluged in all the time. but at the same time it's not good to discharge it all the way all the time. best is to run it at 50 to 95% (if you can). and once a month run a full cycle on the battery (full discharge and charge up.)

leaving it pluged in for long times -can- damage the battery and lower the lifetime of the battery.
